Here are some startling facts from the Centers for Disease Control:
- Ten people die from drowning everyday.
- Adults account for the majority of unintentional drowning deaths.
- Drowning ranks fifth among the leading causes of unintentional injury death in the United States.
- In Massachusetts, almost once per week, there is an unintentional drowning death.
As members of a swimming group, we sometimes take our ability to fearlessly enter the pool and/or swim continuous laps for granted. The above statistics remind us that many of the people around us might not possess basic swimming skills. It is for this reason (and the unacceptable statistics) that we have decided to partner with 9 other masters clubs, various organizations nationwide, and the USMS Swimming Saves Lives Foundation (SSLF) to offer swimming lessons during Adult Learn-To-Swim month (April).
More information on the SSLF can be found here. Please see the flyer below for our sites and times for the lessons.
